Clarice M.D. Gargard (Philadelphia, 1988) is journalist, schrijver, documentairemaker en organisator die journalistiek, kunst, maatschappijkritiek en filosofie/metafysica combineert. Ze werkte als NRC-columnist en Correspondent Verzet bij de Correspondent. Verder heeft ze als redacteur en presentator gewerkt bij AT5, BNNVARA (Joop), Vrij Nederland, Vogue, Harpers Bazaar en bijdragen geleverd aan Vice, Zuid-Afrikaanse 702 Talk Radio en Afropunk. Gargard is samen met Hasna El Maroudi oprichter van het feministisch journalistiek platform Lilith Magazine en het management- en consultancybureau Lilith Agency. En tevens medeoprichter van LHBTI+ organisatie Black Pride NL.
In 2019 was Gargard de Nederlandse vrouwenvertegenwoordiger en gaf zij een toespraak over de rechten van vrouwen en het belang van systeemverandering tijdens de Algemene Vergadering van de Verenigde Naties. Als maker en liefhebber van kunst en cultuur is zij tevens bestuurslid bij het Prins Claus Fonds. Ook is zij vice-voorzitter van het bestuur, onderdeel van Raad van Toezicht van het Holland Festival geweest, vice-voorzitter en organisator bij Black Pride NL en onderdeel van de Raad van Advies van de Nederlandse Vereniging voor de Verenigde Naties.
De documentaire Daddy and the Warlord, over haar vader en de Liberiaanse burgeroorlogen, die ze in samenwerking met Shamira Raphaëla maakte, won in 2019 een Gouden Kalf voor Beste Korte Documentaire. Ook won ze een Black Achievement Award in de categorie Mens en Maatschappij en is ze in 2018 en 2019 genomineerd voor de Joke Smit aanmoedigingsprijs voor haar werk en activisme. Gargards boek Drakendochter (Arbeiderspers) over haar familiegeschiedenis, migratie, politiek en samenleving is nu bij boekhandels te koop.
In 2022 kwam haar documentaire Ga terug en haal het (VPRO) over de tijdloosheid van zwart verzet in Nederland, Suriname en Curacao uit. Die werd geselecteerd voor de Gouden Kalf competitie.

In 2019, Gargard was the Dutch women's representative and gave a speech on women's rights and the importance of systemic change at the United Nations General Assembly. As a maker and lover of art and culture, she is also a board member of the Prince Claus Fund and has been part of the Supervisory Board of the Holland Festival. She is also vice-chairman of the board and organizer at Black Pride NL and part of the Advisory Council of the Netherlands Association for the United Nations.

She also won a Black Achievement Award in the People and Society category and was nominated in 2018 and 2019 for the Joke Smit incentive prize for her work and activism. Gargard's book Dragon Daughter (Arbeiderspers) about her family history, migration, politics and society is now for sale at bookshops. And will hopefully be translated to English soon.
In 2022, her documentary Go back and get it (VPRO) about the timelessness of black resistance in the Netherlands, Suriname and Curacao was released. It was selected for the Golden Calf competition.
